ANANDA BHATTACHARYYA did his M.A. and Ph.D. in Modern History from the University of Jadavpur, Kolkata, India and a Diploma in Archives Keeping from the National Archives of India, New Delhi, India. Currently he is Assistant Director of the West Bengal State Archives, and has already been accepted as a leading historian on late 18th and early 19th century India. His major important publications include Indigo Rebellion: A Selection; Banglay Sufi Andolon etc. He has also contributed papers titled 400 years of Capital Dhaka and Beyond. He is a regular contributor of Social Scientist,Economic and Political Weekly, Journal of the Muslim Minority Affairs, London (Routledge/Taylor and Francis), and Journal of the American Oral History Association, Words and Silence. Dr. Bhattacharyya has attended various national and international seminars and presented papers on different aspects of Indian History.
