PURBA DARSHAN is a multi-disciplinary, peer-reviewd journal devoted to Asian Studies, brought out by the Department of South & Southeast Asian Studies, University of Calcutta. To start with, the aim is to bring out annually a collection of essays, reportage, and book reviews, with emphasis on the social sciences, international relations, cultural studies and gender studies, both in the context of the individual countries,a dn also in relation to regional and sub-regional formations. The opening number contents essays contributed by eminent scholars working on diverse areas and themes related to South Asia, but we hope to expand our scope further in future to cover other parts of the continent.
