Description

Details

The book deals with an unexplored area of the Indo-British military historiography during the second half of the eighteenth and early of the nineteenth century when sepoy expeditions were dispatched by the East India Company from India to Manila (1762-66), Ceylon and South East Asia spice islands (1780-1797), Egypt (1801-02), Mauritius and Java (1810-11) and Burma (1824-26), which were intended to safeguard the British Imperial interests in the East Indies. Company's military service for these overseas expeditions was generally abhorred by the contemporary British youths and the frantic effort of the Company to recruit non-British European having been failed, sepoy recruited from the settlements of Calcutta, Bombay and Madras were only alternative left to the Company to carry out its urgent overseas military service.
